The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile red-brick path that winds through the heart of Boston, guiding visitors to 16 historic sites that tell the story of America’s fight for independence. Established in the 1950s to preserve and showcase the city’s revolutionary landmarks, it remains one of the most iconic and educational walks in the United States.

The trail begins at Boston Common, the oldest public park in the country, and leads through a series of remarkable sites — including Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s House, the Old North Church, and the USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship still afloat. It ends at Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown, where one of the first major battles of the American Revolution took place.

Along the way, visitors step back into the 18th century — walking the same cobblestone streets once trodden by patriots like Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock. The route combines living history, architecture, and storytelling, offering an immersive glimpse into Boston’s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s identity.

Guided and self-guided tours are available year-round, led by knowledgeable interpreters often dressed in period costume, bringing history to life with color and character.

More than just a trail, The Freedom Trail is a journey through time — a celebration of liberty, courage, and the enduring spirit of the American Revolution.
