The Chemin des Crêtes is one of southern France’s most stunning coastal hikes, running along the high cliffs between La Ciotat and Cassis in the Calanques National Park. The trail follows the ridge of the Soubeyranes Cliffs and passes Cap Canaille, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean at every turn.
The route is about 10 km one-way, climbing to nearly 390 m. It’s rated moderate to challenging because of steep sections and exposure, but the views more than reward the effort — endless sea, golden rock, and the bays of Cassis and La Ciotat stretching below.
Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and sun protection, and check the wind before setting out — it can get strong up top. You can hike in either direction, but starting in La Ciotat and finishing with a swim or glass of rosé in Cassis is hard to beat.
Chief Officer Nicola described it as “an excellent use of a day”
